Car paint protection comes in many different forms. The most comon and effective forms of paint protection are:

• Wax
• Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra)
• Solid Car Bra
• Buffing

Car wax is one of the most cost effective and easiest forms of paint protection. Wax is a temporary coating put on the paint to work as a barrier against sunlight and the elements. Wax can help to protect against rust temporarily and if used regularly it will protect your paint form fading over time. Wax also helps give your paint a shine and a sleek surface that helps protect from brake dust and tar. Wax will not protect your paint from rock chips or scratches and it is only temporary but it will help keep your paint looking good for a very long time if used often. Not all waxes will protect your paint some waxes are only meant to give your paint a shine. If you are looking to protect your paint stay away from spray on and quick waxes. Carnauba and silicone waxes are a better alternative because they actually put a protective barrier on your paint.

Putting a clear bra on a vehicle is on of the best ways to protect a vehicles paint. This film will protect against rock chips and scratches. If this film is used on a side of a vehicle it will help to protect from rust and rock chips from the tires. Paint protection film is much tougher to put on then wax or other types of paint protection. To put this film on you will need a couple differents tools and a decent shop with no wind and plenty of light. This film is very simular to window tint the way it is put on and can be difficult at times. Even though the film works perfect for protection your paint from rock chips it does have some downsides. It is not easy to put on and can be costley and time consuming. The film cannont be applied to all your paint so it only protects certain parts of your car. Even though it has theese disadvantages i believe the advanatges of paint protection film strongly out weigh the disadvanateges.

A solid car bra is similar to a clear bra or paint protection film in the way it protects the vehicles paint. A solid car bra is a piece of fabric fit to the front of a car that protects against rock chips, scratches, sun fading and the elements. This is definitely the most effective form of protection for your vehicle. Car bras are usually reasonably priced considering the protection you get from them. The biggest downside on car bras is they cover up the front of the vehicle completely and most people think they are ugly this is why a paint protection film is a great alternative to a solid car bra. How ever if you don't mind the look of the car bra this can be a great form of paint protection you can use on your car. If you own a detailing shop selling and installing car bras can be a great source of income.

Buffing is looked at more as a form of paint restoration then a form of paint protection. But it turns out some finishing compounds contain a type of protective coating that will act as a wax to protect the paint you just buffed. This type of paint protection is not really used by choice it just happens to be a step in paint restoration. If you wanted to protect your paint i wouldn't recommend having it buffed but buffing will restore the shine if the paint has faded or scratched.
